WASEMA in the news

WASEMA Community Inclusion Officer, Elaine  Smith and former WASEMA Project officer, Ngatuaine (Nga) Hosking have both been recognised for services to the community of Victoria in the 2021 Queens Birthday Honours.

Mrs Smith, who Organised the ‘Home Among the Gum Trees’ program at Rural Australians for Refugees, received a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to refugees, and Ms Hosking’s hard work, community spirit and generosity have also been recognised with a Medal of the Order of Australia.
After moving to Australia from the Cook Islands in 1986, Nga devoted her time to helping the multicultural community in Victoria. She’s also sat on a range of committees for the Kingston City Council and the Monash City Council, and was the first councillor of Cook Island’s background to be elected to the City of Monash Council.

Nga is also a long-serving project officer of the Victorian Immigrant and Refugee Women’s Coalition and leader of the Cook Islands community.

Congratulations Nga and Mary!
